We can help…
Experiences in life that overwhelm our brain’s natural healing process and trigger our fight/flight/freeze response are traumatic. Trauma is not the event itself but a person’s subjective or personal experience of the event that defines it as trauma. Any experience that causes us to feel as if we are not being seen or heard, that we are powerless to protect ourselves, feel safe or centered in our bodies is a traumatic experience. Trauma changes how we regulate thoughts and feelings, and our ability to care for ourselves emotionally and psychologically.
Trauma changes the way we live our lives and our relationships with others. Trauma-specific or trauma-focused therapies include EMDR, trauma focused-CBT, prolonged exposure, accelerated resolution therapy, sensorimotor psychotherapy, neurofeedback, and mindfulness-based CBT. These approaches can help you process your history of traumatic experiences, manage symptoms and move towards optimal healing and wellness.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a diagnosis given to people who experience symptoms like these after a traumatic event. Nearly everyone will experience a range of reactions after trauma, and many people will recover from those symptoms on their own. Those who continue to experience problems may have PTSD. They may feel stressed or frightened even when they are no longer in danger. Getting timely help and support may prevent these symptoms from getting worse and help the individual resume normal activities and functioning. There are many PTSD therapy modalities that may be used to help clients manage PTSD symptoms.
